The National Pet Show

King Eric strikes again!!
We are not sure how often we can say this before it becomes ‘old hat’ but Eric, the light green spangle, bred and nurtured by Rob Hughes once again stole the show last weekend, this time at The National Pet Show at the NEC.
Passing through hundreds of hands, word literally spread around the show that Eric was doing the rounds. Whilst we were walking around the show the talk was all about Eric. Many parents were being asked “when can we see Eric again” or “can we have a budgie like this one?”
Such was the clammer that TV presenter Chris Packham of Springwatch fame soon came to meet the shining star of the Budgerigar Society.
Chris spent a short time with us and left us with this message, “The work you guys are doing is fantastic. Eric is acting as a real ambassador introducing children to bird keeping and nature. Well done.”
Thanks to the resources of the BS and working along side our collegues from the NCA its safe to say that promoting birdkeeping has never been better.
By once again combining our efforts with the NCA we were able to put on an impressive display which included a variety of birds in stock, house and exhibition cages plus two aviaries containing – one containing canaries and finches, the other budgerigars.

The event was aimed at education and promotion of a variety of animals to the general public. With organisations such as the kennel club and pony club in attendance the Budgerigar Society was certainly in esteemed company. Our outward promotion presence was once again seen in a professional manner with a number of organisations congratulating our efforts and the manner in which we engaged the public with such a welcoming approach.

Roll on the next event! Eric will be there, will you ? Why not visit Eric’s new Facebook page, give him a “like” and keep track of his activities as the UK’s most famous Budgie!
