New Society Administrator

The Budgerigar Society Announces Jason Julien as the New Society Administrator

Grant Findlay, who has been the Budgerigar Society Administrator for the past 8 years, announced his intention to retire last year. The plan to have his replacement in post during 2020 was thwarted by the Coronavirus and Grant very graciously agreed to continue into 2021. The vacancy was eventually advertised in November 2020 and seven candidates were short listed for interview. However, just prior to the interviews taking place, two of these pulled out. The remaining five were interviewed via zoom over the weekend of 6th and 7th February 2021. All candidates did extremely well, and all were capable of doing the job.

The successful candidate is Jason Julien from Tayport, Fife. Jason has a military background having served with the 1st Battalion The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) for 9 years, followed by Director of Communications for a taxi company. He graduated from The University of Dundee in 2017 with a Bachelor of Law (Hons) degree.Budgerigars

Jason was a successful Zebra Finch breeder and exhibitor and in 2016 his son – also named Jason, wanted birds but didn’t want people to think that he had just got good birds from his dad. So, he decided on budgerigars. Sadly, his son quickly lost interest and Jason continued with the birds he had purchased on his behalf.

Jason joined the BS in 2017, and the Tayside BS club at the same time, where he is currently the President and Secretary, and enjoys this role and everything it entails.

Jason told the General Council at their meeting on 18th February 2020, “For me, meeting people is the best part of our hobby. I love to talk birds and I hope this comes across to new members. I feel very honoured at being given this opportunity and being the face of the Budgerigar Society in my Administrator’s role.”

Jason starts his new role for the BS on 4th May 2021.
