Budgerigar Society Press Release – 4th June 2021
Budgerigar Society Promotion Administrator
The Society regrets to announce that Mat Ackers, the Society’s Promotion Administrator, has decided to step down from his duties.
Mat has been in the role for the past 8 years since 2013 and has taken the promotional side of the Society forward with his attendance at many events and on social media over these years.
Mat and his able assistant Rob Hughes have flown the flag for the Society and hobby with the BS Stand attending events such as Agricultural and County Shows, Society shows and events, Pet Shows, The National and numerous other gatherings up and down the length and breadth of the country from Scotland to Cornwall and many parts in between.
Mat and Rob’s attendance at these events has been well received by the members and public and has brought the profile of the Budgerigar Society to a different audience and many have joined the Society thereafter.
The star of the show was inevitably “Eric the Budgie” who accompanied Mat and Rob at all times and Eric must have been the most photographed budgie of all time. The look of happiness on the faces of the public when they were able to be photographed with Eric was a joy to behold.
Among Mat’s other roles he also championed the Society’s social media promotions which was a thankless task and a real challenge at times which Mat tackled in a very professional way. Mat experienced success with publicising the BS Club Show with features on national and local radio and press.
The Society is extremely grateful for the contributions that Mat and Rob have made over these years in Office. Mat will continue to serve the Society on the BS General Council. Our thanks must also go to Ben Mason for his assistance to Mat and Rob in the early years of the role and more recently Patricia Boyt, Gwilym Jones and Gwyn Williams who attended many events manning the stand around the country.
The General Council will discuss the vacancy at their next meeting.
