Sad News – Eric the Spangle
The Budgerigar Society Promotion Team is very sad to report that Eric the Spangle Budgie has sadly passed away.
Eric has been a huge part of the Promotional team for the past 4 years and In that time he has been a true ambassador for the hobby of Budgerigars. Eric aka the king or the Millet Man was born and raised in North wales and was a real credit to his owner Robert Hughes who spent a vast amount of time with him in order to ensure he was such a people friendly budgie. …
Surely he must be one of the most famous budgies ever, having been held by thousands of people. Such was his charismatic nature that he put a smile on so many faces – from youngsters in prams right through to the elderly. Eric traversed the country in pursuit of promotion – pet shows, Agricultural Shows, bird shows, care homes and schools to name but a few in his time with the team.
He inspired so many people to get a budgie of their own or to start breeding their own. Such was his popularity families would come back to venues like the National Pet Show or Think Parrots just to see Eric. He was so popular wherever he went even the celebrities would queue up to see him, with the likes of Chris Packem and Bill Bailey only too happy to pose to have their photo taken with him.
Eric was awarded the honour of being a life member of the Budgerigar Society with his own ring number in recognition for his services and he will be sorely missed by all that ever met him.
Thank you for all the sterling work you have done over the last 4 years little man. RIP King Eric, keep the Budgie Flag flying high in the aviary in the Sky.
