The Budgerigar Society - World Championship Show 26/09/09 & 27/09/09

The best for many years!
Another Club Show and another great weekend, in fact a number of fanciers that attended this great event remarked that it was probably the best one since the show moved to the Dome. The entry was just slightly up on last year; there seemed to be more people coming through the doors; the quality of the birds, and especially the winners, were up to the standard that we have now come to expect and perhaps best, and most importantly of all, there was a great atmosphere throughout the entire weekend.

Major Winners were:
Best in Show
Best Any Age in Show & Best Intermediate Any Age
P & D Spruce – Grey Green cock
Best In Show 2009

This winning bird that swept all before it had everything you could ever wish for in a top quality exhibition bird.
It had superb length with terrific lift and blow above the eye; it also had a lovely width of face with a superb depth of mask that displayed really good spots. Add to all this; it had super style and was a great show man and it was easy to understand why it received a unanimous decision from the judges for Best in Show.
A super bird and certainly a worthy winner.

Best Young Bird in Show
Best Champion Young Bird
L Martin – Grey Green cock
Best young Bird in Show 2009

This bird was one of those that just oozed quality throughout.
It had superb length with an incredible depth of face and mask; it also had great width between the eyes and an incredible top end. The amount and length of feather was amazing and it must have taken a great deal of time and effort to get it into the condition it was on the day, although some may feel that perhaps just a week later it may have been in just that little bit better condition and may have pushed harder for the supreme award.
Another outstanding bird and another very worthy winner.

Best Opposite Sex in Show
Best Opposite Sex Any Age
Freakley & Ainley – Spangle Cinnamon Yellowface Grey hen
Best Opp Sex in Show 2009

This was a bird that was making a return visit to the Dome having won the Young Bird Challenge Certificate last year before going on to being awarded Second Best Champion Young Bird.
This was superb young hen last year and has now developed into a bird of outstanding quality. It displays a tremendous width of face and head combined with size and style and carries a good buff feather that shows good spangle markings.
Again, another outstanding bird and a very worthy winner.

Best Opposite Sex Young Bird
Light Green hen – P & D Spruce
Best Opp Sex young Bird 2009

Another top quality bird from the stud of P & D Spruce took this major special.
It was a very good, solid bodied young hen with very good width across the shoulders and a deep wide mask with good spots. It stood well throughout the show and showed its style to the best effect.
Again, another top quality youngster and another worthy winner.
