Retirement of Chairman Grant Findlay
At the May General Council meeting of the Budgerigar Society, Grant Findlay took the entire council completely by surprise in tendering his retirement from the position of Chairman, a post he had held for ten years following four years as Vice Chairman. Grant wishes to stress that this is indeed retirement, not resignation on any grounds other than those stated below.
Explaining the suddenness of this decision, Grant explained that he had made it most reluctantly, as recently as last week, because he of pressures of his work in the banking industry, but mostly since he has become President of his local Rotary Club, a position which brings him additional duties, centred around weekly meetings. This made the round trip to the Budgerigar Society officers for various meetings impossible to fulfil at the level at which he has carried out this duty, and he was reluctant to reduce the work that he has hitherto committed to the Chairman's Office. He had thus decided that he should resign immediately so that someone else would be able to carry on the important work of progressing the society.
Grant was able to inform the meeting that Dave Hislop, Vice Chairman, who was unfortunately unable to be at these meetings, was unable to step up to the position of Chairman in view of work commitments.
Three candidates allowed their names to go forward for the position, and the resultant votes resulted in the selection of George Booth, the society's magazine editor, who has served the society in a number of other roles in the past. He was welcomed by the council as a worthy successor to Grant, to whom we have tendered our heartfelt thanks for a job particularly well done, including guiding the society through the purchases and development of its own premises in Northampton.
The Society's new President is Geoff Capes and the President Elect Bob Francis
